Step 6: Polygon Operations

Project layers can also be adjusted using polygon operations. The following polygon operations are available on the Polygons and Polygon Edit tabs:

§  Create a polygon or rectangle of the following types:

§  Clip - Cuts away the area outside the polygon.

§  Exclusion - Cuts away the area inside the polygon.

§  Fill Color/Elevation- Fills the polygon area. In image layers the filling is a color, in elevation layers the filling is an elevation value.

§  Null Value - Erases a selected color or elevation value within the polygon area.

SeeCreating Polygons and Rectangles” in the “Using Polygons and Rectangles” chapter for more information.

§  Select a fill color, elevation value, or null value for a polygon. See “Setting Fill Colors, Elevation Values, and Null Values” in the “Using Polygons and Rectangles” chapter for more information.

§  Attach and detach polygons to other layers so that the same polygon operations can be performed on multiple layers. Changes made to one of the attached polygons are automatically copied to the other polygons. See “Attaching and Detaching Polygons” in the “Using Polygons and Rectangles” chapter for more information.

§  Cut, copy and paste polygons from one layer to another. When a copy of a polygon is pasted into another layer, the new polygon is identical to the original but independent of it. See “Cutting, Copying and Pasting Polygons” in the “Using Polygons and Rectangles” chapter for more information.

§  Add and manage a polygon’s waypoints. See “Editing Polygons” in the “Using Polygons and Rectangles” chapter for more information.

§  Feather a polygon in order to produce a gradual fading of the edges of a shape. See “Feather Operations” in the “Using Polygons and Rectangles” chapter for more information.
